Newsletter No.3
6th November 2009
Dear Parents
Photographs: If you haven’t already sent in your photograph order, please do so on Monday as the order is being posted on Tuesday, 10th November.
Operation Christmas Child: We have only received 3 boxes!! Please support this event and send in your box on Monday.
Milk: If your child is under five, currently receiving free milk, and you wish this to continue, you must apply to CoolMilk straight away. The free milk stops immediately when your child has his/her fifth birthday.
Walk to School Week: Thank you to Ms Glennerster and her team of helpers for organising the Walk to School Week. This will be repeated in the Summer Term. 40 children participated in this event; Hedgehogs having the largest percentage of walkers.
Governor Vacancy: We have a vacancy for a school governor – please see me if you are interested.
Storysacks: Unfortunately, many Storysacks are being returned with missing items, so they cannot be re-issued, thus cutting down on choice. PLEASE check the sacks before returning them to school. We shall have to start charging for missing items as the Storysack Scheme works on a limited budget.
Bags2School: The collection of clothes/shoes, etc in July raised the amazing amount of £136 for PTA funds. The next collection will be next term, on 31st March. Please start saving your unwanted clothes, shoes, bed linen, towels, etc as this is an easy way to raise money for the school.
Outside Class Area: I am sure you have been interested in our latest building project which is now complete. We will be complying a ‘wish list’ for further items and hope that you will support our fund raising events.
We would like to invite you all to a grand opening of the area on 11th December at 9am (although we shall be using it prior to this date). A short assembly will follow the opening and coffee will be available after the assembly.
We are looking to buy cheap waterproof jackets and trousers for wearing over clothing so that the outside area can be used in all weathers. If you have any that are surplus to your requirements or know of a cheap outlet, please let us know as soon as possible.
A security gate will be built on the path at the side of the hall. The children will not be able to open this gate and we feel it would be a good opportunity to say goodbye to your child at the gate each morning. Obviously, if you need to see the duty teacher, please join us on the playground.
Mufti Day: Send in a £1 donation to dress your child in his/her own clothes on Friday, 20th November to support Children in Need.
Christmas Events:
Our Nativity Play this year is “Christmas Presence” to be performed on 8th and 9th December at 1.45pm in the School Hall. The ticket request letter will be sent home shortly.
We have cast the play and words have been issued to all Otters and Hedgehogs. Please help your child to learn their words (loud voices) before the week commencing 30th November as this is rehearsal week.
Costumes will also be issued soon. Please could you iron/repair if necessary and check that the costume fits your child. If there are any problems, please see me immediately. Please send the costume on a hanger with your child’s name and character attached to a bag between Monday, 30th November and Wednesday, 2nd December.
We have been invited to participate in the Village Carol Service at the Village Hall on Sunday, 13th December at 6pm. It would be lovely to see as many children as possible as they will be singing several carols. Children’s own clothes can be worn.
The Christmas Party will be held on the last day of term, ie Friday, 18th December. Party clothes can be worn but as the children will be having an outside play time and a walk to the Village Hall, no flimsy clothes or shoes please.
Christmas Hamper Raffle: Mrs Smyth (Erin and Gabriel’s mother) has kindly volunteered to organise the Christmas raffle which will be drawn at the Christmas Party. She will be asking for donations for a hamper. A list will be available soon. Tickets will also be on sale shortly.
Have you bought your Family Disco tickets yet? These are still available from Mrs Ryan (Isabelle’s mother).
Coats: Please ensure that your child has a coat (named) in school as inclement weather does not prevent us from using the outside.
Several cardigans/sweatshirts are still unnamed – please check your child’s as it is very difficult to return any unnamed items.
Toys: If your child needs to bring a toy to school, then it must be small enough to fit into their trays as there is no room in the classrooms for anything larger.
Hedgehogs only: We have joined with Speen and Hannah Ball Infant Schools in a Linking Schools Project. The idea of the project is to research similarities and differences between children in our wider community. Hedgehogs will be part of this project and will be meeting other Year 2 children during the next few months. They will be introducing themselves to the other children by a ‘passport’.
Hedgehogs will also be taking part in the bi-annual Energize Performances in March. This is a wonderful opportunity to join with approximately 300 children from High Wycombe in Dance/Song and Drama. We are awaiting information as to which item we have been allocated. The performances will be at the Wycombe Swan Theatre during the week of 15th March. Tickets sell very quickly – I will let you know any information as soon as it is released.
Hedgehogs will also be representing the school on 11th November at the War Memorial for the annual Remembrance Service.
Snow Chain: A snow chain letter (with explanations) will be issued shortly. Please check your details carefully and let us know if there are any discrepancies.
